For William and Catherine Wright it was far from being love at first sight. The two met when William was finishing up his residency as a neurosurgeon and Catherine was a young nurse on the same floor. At first their relationship was strictly professional and nothing more. One night, after a long shift and many drinks the two ended up talking until the sun came up the next morning and from then on it was hard to see one without the other. They both had always wanted to help people and both worked extremely hard to get to the positions that they were currently in. Following a short courtship the two were married in a huge Catholic church and not long after they were pregnant with their first child. Catherine opted to take time off from her career once their first daughter was born.

It was a stormy fall night when Nanci Catherine Wright was born. It seemed only the appropriate entrance for a little girl who would grow to be the mother of dragons. From the moment she was born she was daddy’s little girl and the apple of her parents eye. They had both been used to long nights in the hospital so the transition to caring for a baby seemed to come naturally to both of them. Nanci made it easy on them, all told, and for the most part was a good baby. Once she started walking and talking it was easy to see that she was musically inclined, always singing and dancing to whatever song she was making up. Catherine noticed this early on and enrolled her young daughter into dance classes to let her now oldest daughter flourish. Nanci felt most at home at dance class and was always the girl who was early and dancing the second that she walked through the door and was always the last little girl who wanted to leave. Dancing was her whole life and Catherine let it consume the little girl, although William preferred that his daughter would be more scholarly inclined, much like himself and her mother.

There was no stopping her, however, as she took a strong interest in ballet as she grew. Now the family was a family of five, welcoming another daughter when Nanci was five years old. It was around that time that Nanci asked to get involved in vocal lessons and acting lessons. Catherine signed her up for both, very much against William’s wishes, but Nanci was happy and that was all that mattered to Catherine. Once she reached primary school, however, William sat Catherine down and told her she had to maintain her grades if she wanted to continue to participate in such activities. Nanci, always stubborn and focused, heeded her father’s wishes and tried her best but it was clear that she was more creatively inclined than other children her age. Her grades in English were always top notch but the girl but her math and science grades always left more to be desired. Still, they were good enough to let her continue in her passions and Catherine encouraged her oldest child’s pursuits and would frequently take Nanci to see various musicals in the West End.

When she was a teenager, the oldest Wright girl told both of her parents that she wanted to be a performer, particularly a musical theatre performer and while Catherine was thrilled at the idea, William wanted his daughter to be more practical and told her that he would support her but only if she promised to graduate with honours. Nanci promised and continued to work extremely hard, which didn’t leave a lot of room for her to make friends outside of her theatre and dance friends. One day Catherine went against her husband’s wishes and secured Nanci an agent who sent her on her very first audition, a movie based on the novel Pride and Prejudice. It was a small role and Nanci never wanted to do film but she booked it. The whole process was extremely overwhelming but Nanci always remained extremely professional and polite, albeit a tiny bit shy, and it was an extreme success. She had still made a promise to her father and she was determined to keep that promise and went back and graduated and also booked a role in the musical Parade in the process.

Parade was truly a dream come true for any young performer and Nanci felt comfortable in her abilities to do well. It didn’t go unnoticed from the audience and she simply took a back seat and decided that she would learn everything that she could from her more experienced performers. To watch the emotional journey that everyone in the cast went through was a masterclass in performing and Nanci was well on her way to fulfilling the dream that she had her eyes set on from early in childhood. Hollywood would come calling again, though, and she would land a role in the Harry Potter franchise, something that was another dream for any young British actor. Joining such an established cast was very overwhelming, though, and Nanci often kept to herself unless someone addressed her. Her shy demeanor soon vanished the longer she stayed on set and the usually bubbly girl came shining through by the end of the shoot.

Nanci always wanted to push herself, though, and that opportunity came when the new show Game of Thrones was recasting one of the roles after shooting their pilot. Prior to her audition Nanci had not read the book series but on the page she loved the woman she was auditioning for. Before saying yes to the role she decided to read the books, which had her completely sold, and she soon began filming the new show. It was new territory for her, as she had never been nude on set before, but she wanted to push herself as an actress and this series would certainly do that. Her father was not thrilled with his daughter’s decision but understood it was an opportunity that she could not really pass up. Luckily, her cast was extremely supportive and playing the mother of dragons became second nature to the young actress and she could only hope that audiences would take to the new and provocative show. Once it premiered and it was acclaimed, Nanci was thrilled that she would continue to do what she loved and explore a woman that both fascinated and scared her all the same.

In 2014, Nanci got the opportunity to go back to her musical theatre roots, playing Rapunzel in the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods, which was nothing but a dream come true. It also reunited her with a good friend of hers, playing the other princess, and Nanci was on her way to solidifying herself as a true triple threat among her peers. She also made the decision that she would no longer do any nudity on Game of Thrones, a choice that she was surprised was met with compassion and understanding. Now, Nanci Wright is ready to show Hollywood what she is made of and there is truly no stopping her now.
